Are You a Purple Squirrel?

The answer, of course, depends on who you ask.

A purple squirrel, according to Wikipedia, is a term used “to describe a job candidate with precisely the right education, set of experience, and range of qualifications that perfectly fits a job’s requirements.”

All companies are on the elusive hunt for the purple squirrel, including RightBrain Networks. As a cloud development firm that subscribes to the DevOps philosophy, our purple squirrel has three distinct skillsets: IT, application development and consulting. RightBrain CEO Jamie Begin explained to ITBestofBreed.com:

“People with an IT background generally have infrastructure management experience, which is the foundation for our cloud work. With app dev experience comes a mastery of agile delivery methods and an understanding of high-level application architecture.”

Candidates with a consulting background also have a “polished professional etiquette and an understanding of our business model,” Jamie said.

IT professionals are often drawn to service companies like RightBrain because of the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and with different technologies. But it’s important that candidates understand the nuances of working with clients (as opposed to internal end users) and can conduct themselves in a professional manner. Many different “soft skills” come into play here: the ability to communicate clearly, time management, critical observation, problem solving, etc.
